DREAMS OF MY MOTHER #yqbaba #yostowrimo #dreamsofmymother #chitstory

I grew up seeing my mother toiling in the kitchen. Five kids, an unconcerned husband and a complaining mother in law. I don't know how she did it, but she ensured excellent food on our plate at mealtimes and meekly obeyed her husband and in-laws, ensuring peace and keeping the family from falling apart.

My mother, she even stitched all our clothes and knitted sweaters to keep us warm. We were amply pampered by her. She rarely stepped outa the kitchen. Her dreams? Well, did my mother even have time to dream? Poor lady must've barely had time to sleep, what with birthing five kids every two years. Sigh!

I remember asking mom what she would have liked to pursue had she been given a chance. 'Oh! I love to care for people and nursing would have been a perfect profession for me' replied the sweet lady. Looking back, I feel sorry at the plight of women then. My mom could have easily been a fashion designer coz I would see her making exact replicas of readymades for us. Perhaps we were privileged to wear clothes that were stitched and designed to perfection. Anyways, that was not to be and her expertise remained unexplored. The surprising thing to note is that she has no regrets whatsoever. She has accepted life sans any complaints despite getting a raw deal from her family and society.
