Shines through each one of us. We're alive, is proof enough. Let's not wear dark glasses and think we're dark within. We're the ocean in a drop waiting to become a drop in the ocean. Good morning, writers! 😊 "How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world." - William Shakespeare Did you know? 🌸 One of the main obstacles in the path of students in India is the absence of reliable source of illumination, for electricity is either non-existent or patchy in rural areas. The other sources of light like kerosene lamps pose health hazards, and hence are ineffective. To dispel this gloom, Dr. Ranganayakulu Bodavala, a Harvard alumnus who had been actively working in the field of rural development in various states, launched a large-scale social initiative called 'One Child One Light' (OCOL) in 2009. They came up with solar-chargeable LED lights that are much more luminous and long lasting. It took a year for the programme to gain momentum but then the students were relieved and excited to have lights of their own which they could charge, free of cost, thereby causing renewed interest in studies. OCOL was supported by several individuals as well as corporate houses in its ventures across states. The most touching form of contributions also came in the form of small schools catering to underprivileged children collecting notable amounts of money to help those even more underprivileged than them. ❤️
