WOMANHOOD The beauty who never gingered her tongue for the cries she wept Dead her wyllan and dreams were nu Just for a smile and father's promise be kept The marriage vow and rituals she led, Burnt at seven, round the fire, Nothin' but were she 24K Gold, Infront a father's dream she was never bold, Untimely fire casting shadow On the wedding's floor With a tochter's worth a minute before, To be mother, cradling sons, To bear insults frequently as waves on shore, Good if seen as she always was, Standing by her husband's side, A shadow which has ceased to fight, After burning eyes in the marriage light, Death in dream yet in happy sights, She didn't die so young should I say? Rather would I say, her youth's dead, She who thanked her fate for the son she had, As if daughter in womb of hers had she led, Dead until born or after as her mother was fed, For She was a foetus unborn yet, Sold was a Girl, they rejoice, at her father's bet. (Caption for references) Stay in here if you don’t understand the poem, that’s why I referred to the caption. WOMANHOOD- as the title suggests it talks of different stages of women’s life adding dowry system, child marriage ,female foeticide and female abuses in mind. The first line the ginger part- A girl never gives a fake weeping as was done during the Elizabethan era , actors and actresses used to ginger their tongue which would make them cry so that they could perform on the stage.
