The culture of our country has assimilated the other cultures of the world in such a way that now they are being seen by connecting them with the main culture here.  The same thing holds true for the original art of other countries as well.

Embroidery is also one such art which has been happening in India since ancient times.  India has been ruled by foreigners from time to time, due to which many changes are seen in the embroidery.

Lucknow, which is famous for the expansion of the Mughal Empire and the rise of Awadhi culture, is also famous for its chikan embroidery. 

According to Laila Tyabji, a social activist, designer, writer and craft worker, “Chikankari originated from the white-on-white embroidery of Shiraz, the main city of Iran, originally came to India as a culture of the Persian nobles of the Mughal court. According to a popular story, Jahangir's wife Noor Jahan introduced Chikankari in India.
