When her initial polite appeals for better wages for herself and her fellow laborers fell on deaf ears, she toughened up and convinced the group of women to open 'the Granary of Pullucheri'. Today, owing to her persistent efforts, Pullucheri in Tamil Nadu has become a self-sufficient village, empowering hundreds of people with their own banking system and skill-based training. Women and their families have emerged out of stark poverty since the last 30 years. Thanks to the voice of Chinna Pillai, that spoke like a beacon of hope.
