A wrong number that wasn't wrong anymore.
Keep reading the caption for the why of it.. "Hello. I understand you need an oxygen cylinder. Where do we send it?" An unfamiliar voice with urgency in it. I was perplexed. I was fit n fine. Who in heaven was ill? I gathered myself and politely said " I don't get you sir. Where are you calling from?"
He probably hadn't heard me and repeated his earlier question with a little impatience evident in it yet the voice seemed strong, powerful and I wished to hear more of it. Hey, what am I thinking? I slapped my thoughts and responded politely saying there was nobody ill here and could he please tell me who he was. He hurriedly apologized and hung up. Two days later, the same voice, the same question. I quickly asked him who he was and from where he was calling. He told me that he belonged to a certain team helping people in the pandemic get their oxygen supplies. It was a voluntary service. Turns out he was from my area, in fact my neighborhood housing society and impressed me with his work. Our conversation lingered a little longer than necessary. The next day, my naughty hand, of its own volition, as if having a mind of its own, put in a call to the number it sensed my ears wanted to hear. "Hello, sachin speaking from sachita foundation." My lips refused to mouth anything n I disconnected the call. Immediately, my hand repeated its act. This time my mouth obeyed my mind and I spoke to him asking him how things were going and if I could recommend anyone who urgently needed the life saving oxygen tho' I then knew of none. He laughed and said why not? It would only be a few hours wait. I was happy at having spoken to that wonderful voice housing a beautiful mind. A few days later, my elderly neighbour caught the virus real bad and as expected, sachin came to his rescue. Our calls to each other became more frequent, more intimate.
I was fortunate to meet him, fortunate to know that we understood and vibed well, fortunate to find a good friend. I now harbour feelings of love that I wish would culminate in giving our relationship a legal promise. I am waiting to pop the question hopeful of a positive response.
A wrong number at the right time got me hooked right and I hope everything turns out just right.
Keeping my fingers crossed. Will update our status later. Keep watching this space for more and do pray for me, will ya? 😷
