White SOMETHING I LOOK AT-300
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

Just for a few seconds,
or at best a minute,
look at me
that will surely make my day
worth living

I will not ask for more
I know how precious is time of yours
Just a few seconds, a few seconds only
that will make the old man dance and smile once more

Hope
a few seconds may not cost you much if it relates to someone's cheer and tears,
anxiety and concern.
Someone whose only desire is to see you at the top, to see you move on with a smile and grace on life's lonely corridor

If I do not deserve it,
a simple gesture
which will let me go through my uneventful day and night,
why shall I be here, for whom shall I be,
better if I wither away forever

Each relationship is a beautiful relationship, one does not need to name and define it. It may not be between brother and sister, father and daughter, lover and beloved, but
It can be as fulfilling and gratifying as any other relationship provided we know how to live and carry it.

White "And they obey"

Smash down the dreams
Break the walls of heyday
Piles of white flowers
Black ribbons, too much say
Echoes of laughter fade,
Shadows linger and hearts betray
In silence, he walks alone
Lost in the price of fame's display
Empty stages, hollow cheers
Awaiting light of the day
Trembling voices, masked fears
As some turn their backs away
Make them lose and forget the light
Show the things that make them sway

What matters
Not where you are
With whom you are
But how you are.

What matters
Not what you have
But what can you share with those
Who do not have

What matters
Not what you say
But how you say
Whether it is from the heart or lips
And how it touches one

What matters
Not whether you are alive or dead
But whether you are alive
For the rest of the world
Their cheers and tears
Or an island in yourself

What matters
Not how beautiful you are
But whether you see beauty in others
Share their happiness and sorrow

What matters
Not how much you love your family
But whether your parents and grandparents
Are not in it
Whether you visualise the outside world
As your extended family

       A LOOK AT ME

Don't call me a poet
I am not one.
How can I be
with so much ego, hatred and jealousy?
How can I be one
when I don't have the eyes to see good in others, a heart to reciprocate and a mind to acknowledge truth and beauty
How can someone be
who does not enjoy other's success,
an island in himself who has not seen anything beyond the blue sea.
One whose sun rises and sets,
the day begins and
night descends only for himself
can hardly be a poet.
Being an epitome of negativity in all its forms
I only faithfully reflect myself,
my selfishness, prejudice and
malice for the rest.
If poetry is reflecting
the society for its betterment
what betterment I am doing except propagating and projecting myself
I need at least one more birth to love and understand poetry, appreciate others
and many more births to realise,
there is absolutely no difference
I and my focus of jealousness are the same

White SOMETHING I LOOK AT-133
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

WOMANHOOD, A BLISS

I am not the selfish arrogant 'I'
I am not the independent egoistic 'I'
I am not an island in myself
But an interdependent loving and reciprocating 'I'
an ocean of unlimited joy and bliss,
a mother to many including the man I love
And his father who sees his mother in me.

A mother, a sister, a daughter, a daughter in law, a wife and beloved I am,
complete in every respect,
do equal justice to all my roles,
true to myself and others.
Completely lost in my family,
lost my identity only to become the mistress of it with a much bigger identity.

My womanhood never rests on selfish interests and possessive individualism
It is firmly entrenched on love,
appreciation and an understanding of each other's needs, emotions and feelings

I can't afford to be selfish
On me, on my love and sacrifice
stands my family.
I am the mainstay,
the pivot around which revolves family
and other institutions of society.
I am the voice that gives it meaning and identity
But for me, the family is a family
I am that human touch that makes my family so beautiful
Or else it is an assemblage of selfish interests,
a solitary asylum in a noman's land.
I love my family, my family loves me
What more do I need?
