Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It was the month when key parts of the Qur’an – Islam’s holy book – were first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Fasting is a core component of Ramadan. In fact, this is one of the five pillars of Islam. (More on that later.)
